A Perth mother has described the terrifying moment she put herself at risk to protect her two young children and the family pet from two vicious dogs.

Nine News has reported Nicole Filar was walking in the Perth suburb of Doubleview with her young child and family labradoodle, Kiki, on Monday afternoon when they were attacked by two dogs – believed to be a staffy and a bull mastiff.

Disturbing footage shows one of the dogs attacking Ms Filar’s child, who she clutched to her chest, while the other dog attacks Kiki, before bystanders rush to the beleaguered mother.

“I was just trying to protect his face because I didn’t know what was going to happen,” Ms Filar told Nine News.

She said the dogs began to circle the family before they attacked.

“They started circling us, then all of a sudden one of the dogs is jumping up at my son, who was in the carrier attached to me,” Ms Filar said.

“I just started screaming for help and becoming hysterical because I couldn’t help either of them,” she said.

The family avoided any serious injuries, and council officers are now investigating.

The owner of the two ferocious dogs, Gloria Fryer, said she was sorry.

Ms Fryer said the dogs “have not been trained properly”.

Officers at the City of Stirling are reviewing the footage.

Dog attacks can attract enormous fines, up to $10,000, or $3000 if no one is injured.
