NT Fire Service rescue Alawa dog with head stuck in wheel
WHEN this curious puppy decided to stick his head into the middle of a spare tyre, he landed himself in a world of trouble.
WHEN Flume didn’t come running when Michael Borell went outside for his morning coffee, he knew something was wrong.
The seven-month-old bull terrier had been kicked out of the house and into the yard at 6am after making noise.
“He was being a little s**t so we put him outside, but then when I went for my coffee about 10am he didn’t come like he normally does,” Mr Borell said. “I couldn’t see him in the yard so I started checking down the street, but then I just saw his little tail at the back of the house.”
The Alawa pup had been chasing lizards and had poked his head through the hole in a wheel rim.
“He’s got one of those pointy heads where they can shoot through things but then can’t get back out,” Mr Borell said. “I had to wheel him around to the front yard, with him sort of side stepping the whole way but we still couldn’t get him out.”
Mr Borell then enlisted the help of his girlfriend Nerissa Taylor to try with dishwashing detergent but all the suds didn’t help.
“Eventually we realised we had to call the fire brigade,” he said.
At first, the fireys thought they would have to call a vet to sedate the distraught pup, but in the end a bit of pulling and tugging worked.
“They were just able to keep poking bits of skin back through,” Mr Borell said.
“When he finally got out he was so happy, he wouldn’t stop following the fireys around.”
All spare tyres have since been removed from the yard.
