Newly discovered winged dinosaur was related to Jurassic Park’s Velociraptor

ITS colourful fur and feathers might make it look friendly, but this creature is a relative of one of the world’s most feared predators.

ZHENYUANLONG sunis might be the new Velociraptor.

Palaeontologists in China discovered a new and nearly complete dinosaur fossil in the country’s Liaoning Province.

The skeleton, named Zhenyuanlong suni, is a relative of the Velociraptors made famous is “Jurassic Park,” and lived around 125 million years ago.

Scientists described the species as being around six feet long, with big, dense feathers on its tail and wings, and short arms.

“It’s the biggest dinosaur that has ever been found with wings,” said Steve Brusatte, a palaeontologist at Edinburgh University, who co-authored the discovery’s study published in Scientific Reports.

However, scientist believe the creature most likely used the wings for show, rather than flight.

“Sometimes new fossils provide more questions than answers, and this is one of those fossils,” Brusatte told the Huffington Post. “We don’t have a good answer to this question.”
