New species of frog discovered and everyone goes crazy because it looks like Kermit

A NEW species that looks remarkably like a Muppet from Sesame Street has set the internet abuzz. Someone needs to tell Miss Piggy.

A NEW frog has been discovered in Costa Rica and someone should really let Miss Piggy know.

The previously unknown breed of frog looks exactly like Kermit.

The species of frog was discovered by Brian Kubicki who has been studying amphibians in the Central American country for 17 years, reports CBS News.

The appearance of the frog is strikingly close to the quintessential depiction of the four-legged creature that belted out the Rainbow Connection. From its bright green colour and the shape of its mouth to the big white eyes, the resemblance is uncanny.

The species, dubbed Hyalinobatrachium dianae, is a variety of glass frog which are known for their translucent skin.

Its discoverer said one of the things that most distinguishes the type from other species of glass frog is also why it took so long to discover.

“The advertisement call that the males of this species produce are very unique, no other known species of frog has a similar call, and this was indeed one of the traits that we used for the justification of it being a completely new species,” he said.

While the internet is going crazy over the real life Kermit, Kubicki thinks the comparison will be a positive thing for scientists like him.

“I think it is great that this species is getting so much attention around the world. Hopefully this will help increase the awareness of the incredible amphibians found in Costa Rica,” he said.

The discovery was detailed in the journal Zootaxa.
