Logan City Council decides fate of dogs behind meter reader attack

A local council has decided the fate of two dogs who mauled a meter reader to death in a Queensland front yard on Saturday.

The two dogs who killed a Queensland meter reader on Saturday have been put down, the Logan City Council has confirmed.

Kane Minion, 42, a contracted meter reader for Energex, died after he was mauled by a bandog bull-mastiff cross and a Rhodesian ridgeback cross in the suburb of Greenbank, south of Brisbane.

The Logan City Council confirmed the deaths of the dogs this week.

“On Tuesday, after advice that Queensland Police had completed the relevant part of its investigation, the dogs were swiftly and humanely euthanised,” the council said in a statement.

“Council strongly promotes responsible pet ownership and has zero-tolerance for dogs that act in, or might be kept in, a way that could compromise community safety,” the statement read.

Mr Minion was working in the area when he was attacked by the dogs. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he died at the scene.

The dogs were surrendered to the council by their owners this week.

“Logan City Council’s heartfelt thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the victim and others who may have been impacted by the tragic event at Greenbank,” a council spokesperson said.

Police were called to Ison Rd at 10.47am on Saturday, and Mr Minion was found in a critical condition.

The owners were not at home at the time.

A spokesperson for energy company Downer Group, whose Skilltech business Mr Minion worked for, said over the weekend that he had worked for the company for more than seven years.

“Downer is extremely saddened by this tragic loss,” the company said in a statement.

“Kane has worked with Downer’s Skilltech metering business for more than seven years and was a popular member of the team,” they said.

“Downer extends our deepest sympathies to Kane’s family, and we will support them through this incredibly difficult time.”

Mr Minion was reportedly engaged in December last year.
