Kayaker films terrifying close call a Great White shark swipes at boat
Horrifying vision shows the moment one of the ocean’s biggest predators approaches a kayaker in South Australia.
A kayaker has shared video of the terrifying moment a giant great white shark tried to take a bite out of his oar while ten kilometres out from the shore of Port Augusta.
Adelaide man Matthew Gorne was out fishing in his kayak on Monday when the a dark grey shape glided into view under his boat.
The video shows the shark just beneath the water’s surface as it swims ominously back and forth beneath his feet.
The attack escalates quickly as Mr Gorne tries to move his oar and sees the shark emerge from the water with its nose pointed up trying to grab it.
The clip doesn’t show how Mr Gore made it to shore but he appears to escape any injury.
He told the Advertiser he knows he is “stupid” for going out into the water without a shark shield – a device that deters sharks by sending out an electromagnetic field – but will definitely be investing in one.
There hasn't been a confirmed South Australian death due to a shark attack since 2014.
