It appears Australia will never be able to shake its “crocodile hunter” stereotype after this one.

A pub owner in the Northern Territory was instantly written into Australian folklore after a video of him beating a crocodile with a frying pan blew up on social media.

The short clip shows Kai Hansen being confronted by the massive predator at the Goat Island Lodge. Armed with only a cast iron and ice-cold nerves, Mr Hansen refused to let the croc strut around after eating his pet dog Dumb Blonde.

After smacking the beast on the nose twice, the croc admitted defeat, scurrying back to the river.

Australia predictably responded to the video with irreverent quips.

“We use pans, Americans use guns, Australians are just built like that,” Olga Pavlopoulou wrote on social media.

“I bet he won loads of tickets at timezone over the years,” Krystle Mott added.

“Should have used a croc pot,” Greg Harrop responded.

“Men have been suffering this same treatment ever since the frying pan was first invented without any one protesting then along comes the croc and all of a sudden [they’re] up in arms. Go figure that,” William Blake wrote.

“In case of Australia: smack critters with a pan,” Pat Crash added.

“Huh, pub owner hits crocodile with a [frying pan] to chase it off the front lawn. Here in Australia that’s just what happens on any given Tuesday,” John Scriven noted.

Others stated they were concerned for the crocodile’s wellbeing.

“Again humans encroaching on a wild animals home and the poor animal get wacked for being a crocodile,” MaryAnn Hughes wrote.

“Well you built your pub on his territory leave the poor crocodile alone,” Ellen Gow wrote.

The video, originally posted by the Airborne Solutions Helicopter Tours Facebook page, has attracted almost a million views in under a day.

“I wouldn’t say it’s an everyday event, but I’ve got to stay safe and do what I can,” Mr Hansen told the Daily Mail.

“No one got hurt and the croc got a good lesson.”

Thousands of viewers commented on the unbelievable video, complimenting the fearless publican on his now-viral confrontation.

The post appeared to attract several Americans, with numerous comments referring to the crocodile as a “gator”.

“That Gator understood the assignment. He was gonna be in that frying pan and that’s why he went back to that water,” one person commented.

“If I‘m ever walking by the bayou ill make sure ill have a frying pan in hand,” another said.
