Hero dog thwarts prison break in Corfu, Greece
INMATES spent at least two weeks digging a tunnel to escape a Greek prison. But their plans were thwarted by a curious pooch.
A HERO dog foiled an attempted prison break by unwittingly uncovering the inmates’ escape tunnel in Greece, according to reports.
The pooch was enjoying a morning walk with its owner about 10am Saturday local time when it stopped near Corfu Prison and refused to budge.
The dog’s owner then heard noises coming from below the ground and alerted authorities.

Ekathimerini.com reported police found a 30-metre-long tunnel starting from the prison’s B Wing where 21 convicts serving long or life terms are being held.
Inside the tunnel, battery-powered fans and plastic containers of food were discovered, according to local reports.
The tunnel was reportedly weeks in the making.
According to Greek Reporter, more than 120 inmates at the same prison managed to escape through a tunnel in 1996.
Last month, Mexican drug lord Joaquin Guzman, nicknamed El Chapo, used an elaborate tunnel to break out of a maximum security prison. He has not been found.
