AN orphaned baby orangutan is so heartbroken about losing her family that she constantly hugs herself, hoping someone will hold her.

The Mirror reports that ‘Joss’ has been given a home by the International Animal Rescue in Borneo where the carers are giving her the attention she needs.

The centre looks after up to 80 orangutans at any one time, most of them babies.

The main purpose of the IAR is to teach the animals enough skills so that one day they can be released into the wild.

Latest statistics say that the orangutan population in Borneo has halved over the last 60 years, mainly due to deforestation.
