A woman who threw her dog from a second-storey carpark took to Facebook expressing her love for her pet just one month after the “distressing” and “deliberate” act.

Amy Lea Judge was sentenced on Tuesday after throwing her dog, Princess, from the top storey of the carpark at Westfield Whitford City shopping centre, north of Perth, in April 2022.

Disturbing CCTV footage of the incident shows the 26-year-old arguing with her partner, Scott Frost, before eventually hurling the Maltese/shih-tzu cross over the ledge.

A passer-by later found the dog on the lower level of the carpark.

Thinking she’d been hit by a car, she took her to the vet, where the dog was put down due to the severity of her injuries.

Ms Judge later expressed regret over having her dog put down in a Facebook post weeks after the incident.

“Three weeks and it would’ve been your 11th birthday, not a day passes where I don’t constantly have you on my mind,” she wrote in a post in May 2022, alongside a photo of Princess in a pink blanket.

“I love you so-so much Princess, I would give anything to have you back here with me.”

She added that she was “so sorry” and “full of regret”.

“I miss you, I love you, I wish I never had you put down. I’m full of regret that will never go away! I just wish I tried to do whatever I could to make you better before making the choice to put you down. I’m really sorry I never gave you a chance.”

The 26-year-old later shared an illustrated photo of Princess on Facebook last month.

“A dog is much more than a pet,” the photo reads, alongside an illustrated image of Princess wearing a pink crown.

According to RSPCA WA, Ms Judge previously confessed to killing her dog in another post on Facebook.

“I threw my dog off the top story of a shopping centre carpark and watched her fall to her death, but she survived and needed to be put down due to how badly I injured her, all the damage I caused,” she wrote in the post.

“I need the truth out in the open it’s … tearing me apart I can’t live with the guilt anymore … I did her a favour because all I did was hurt her and abuse her.”

Ms judge later deleted the post and told police her account had been hacked.

On Tuesday she was sentenced to 12 months in jail, including ten months for throwing her dog over the ledge and two months for unrelated incidents.

She was also banned from owning an animal for 10 years.

Her 23-year-old partner, who was present during the incident, was fined $2500 and banned from owning animals for three years for failing to seek vet care for Princess.

During the sentencing, Magistrate Mark Millington labelled the act “planned, deliberate and intentional”.

He said Ms Judge displayed a lack of remorse and consistently attempted to shift the blame and make excuses for her behaviour.

RSPCA WA Inspector Manager Kylie Green described the incident as the “most distressing” she had seen in her 11 years on the job, labelling it “callous and extremely confronting display of animal cruelty”.

“Dogs can be so trusting, and they rely on their owners to keep them safe. I can’t think of a more disgusting betrayal of that trust,” she said.

“Today’s outcome delivers some justice for the pain and terror poor Princess endured in her final hours.

“I hope it also sends a clear message to the community that intentional cruelty towards animals is extremely serious and won’t be tolerated.”
