Goat sparks wild foot chase down busy Perth highway
The farm animal was spotted “hoofing” it down a major highway, prompting a police response before it was placed “in custody”.
An escaped goat has caused a stir and stopped traffic along a busy Perth highway, prompting a foot chase and response from local police.
It happened on Sunday in the southern suburb of Bentley when the errant animal was spotted on the Leach Highway.
“I drove slowly behind it and with the assistance of the car in the left lane, tried to shepherd it off the road,” Michael Mueller told PerthNow.
“The goat stopped in front of a house for a bit and I called the ranger at this point but then the goat took off again.”
Mr Mueller also called local police, who took after the goat on foot as it started hoofing down nearby Manning Rd.
“I was parked at the Ampol (service station) and pointed the goat out to the officers,” he said.
“At which point, the goat took off again, heading further down Manning Rd.”
They managed to herd the horned beast down suburban Dumond St, with the creature cornered and apprehended safely.

“You have goat to be kidding me!” wrote Cannington District Police on their social media channels, alongside a photo of the goat, probably feeling quite sheepish at that point, being led away.
“One goat in custody after a hectic foot chase along Manning Rd,” the post read.
City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall confirmed the goat had since been returned to its owner.
“If the goat was not able to be reunited with the owner, similar to dogs and cats, the goat would be impounded,” Mr Hall told PerthNow.
Any future animal sightings causing traffic chaos in the City of Canning area should be reported to rangers on 1300 422 664.
