Terrified parents and children witnessed the attack outside Berwick Fields Primary School and several tried to help.

City of Casey manager of safer communities Daniel Osborne said in a statement that an investigation was underway.

“Two dogs believed to be responsible for the attack have been seized by council officers,” he said.

It is understood those two dogs had escaped from a property, according to the Herald Sun.

The girl’s injured pet was also reportedly taken to hospital and needed an operation to treat injuries.
