Frog with ‘big penis’ goes viral, but turns out to be a third leg
PICTURES of a frog with incredibly large penis are making the rounds on social media. But is everything as it seems? WARNING: Strange pictures.
SCROLLING through Facebook can be great entertainment, but sometimes you come across something that leaves you feeling slightly queasy.
For example, Australian Facebook user Keith Leech recently posted a series of pictures of what appears to be a frog with an extremely large penis.
Aptly captioned ‘what the frog’, the post contains three pictures from different angles, which showcase why the frog would likely popular with its female counterparts.
The only problem is the frog isn’t the Dirk Diggler of the amphibian world because frogs don’t actually have a doodle.
Professor Ross Alford from James Cook University said while he can’t be 100 per cent sure from looking at the photos, it is likely the fleshy member is just an extra appendage.
“[It could] be an unusually positioned extra hind limb; frogs do sometimes have extra limbs, often relatively centrally placed and usually underdeveloped,” he told news.com.au.
“I’ve seen cane toads with up to seven legs (only four that really worked, though).”
Mr Alford suggested it could also be a “tailed frog”, which is well known for its penis-esque qualities.
“The ‘tail’ is actually a copulatory organ that is an extension of the cloaca and used to fertilise eggs in very fast flowing streams,” he said.
Although, he admits this is highly unlikely given the appearance and geographical location of the amphibian.
“If it was captured in the Pacific Northwest of North America, though, I would suspect it might be,” he said.
“Depends a bit on the size, too, which is hard to judge from those photos, the tailed frog is fairly small.”
So with no way to tell without an up-close examination of the frog, let’s just say it’s a third leg and cover all bases.
