French mastiff seized by council after woman attacked and taken to hospital in a serious condition
A woman has been seriously injured after being mauled by a French mastiff north of Adelaide with council officers seizing the dog and launching an investigation.
A French mastiff has been seized by council after mauling a woman and leaving her with severe injuries to her legs, abdomen and head.
Paramedics were called to Gawler South, about 40km north east of Adelaide’s CBD, around 9.30am on Tuesday where a 30-year-old woman was suffering “serious bleeding”, an SA Ambulance spokeswoman said.
“She was conscious and breathing with reports of serious bleeding,” she said.
She was rushed to Royal Adelaide Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A Royal Adelaide Hospital spokeswoman said the victim remained in hospital but did not want her condition further updated.
The dog was seized by Gawler Council officers who attended around 11am, the council said in a statement.
“Council’s community safety officers attended the site of a dog attack in Gawler South at the request of SAPOL, where the victim had been taken by emergency services to hospital for treatment,” the council said in a statement.
“A French mastiff, has been seized by Council’s Community Safety Officers and will be detained while a full investigation is conducted, including interviews with the victim and all witnesses.
“The dog’s owner is co-operating fully with investigators.”
Police confirmed to NCA NewsWire officers had attended the scene after receiving a call-out but said the matter rested with the council.
