Family pet shocks owner after saying ‘mamma’ in a hope for food

MOVE over, Mr Ed. There is a new talking animal in town. Watch as this family dog communicates with its owner.

A UTAH mother’s plan to get her nine-month-old son to speak has backfired in the most marvellous way.

Andrea Diaz-Giovanini filmed as she attempted to get her son Samuel to say “mamma” by enticing him with food.

“That week he had been saying ‘dadda’ a lot, so we were trying really hard to coax him to say ‘mamma’,” she told KSL.com.

Ms Diaz-Giovanini continually articulated the word in the hope her son would follow, however he appeared nonchalant and gazed off into the distance.

Noticing Samuel’s lack of interest, the family’s 10-year-old Australian shepherd dog, Patches, pounced on the opportunity for some free food.

At first, it sounded like the dog was just whining, but after a number of attempts, Patches vocalised the word “mamma” in a controlled fashion.

This caused Ms Diaz-Giovanini to burst into laughter, which only encouraged the clever pooch to say the word again.

Fed up with being outclassed by the dog, Samuel reached over and held its mouth shut.

That’ll teach him.
