Epic moose versus wolf battle caught on drone footage
A CANADIAN YouTuber was filming a moose in northern Ontario when “something unexpected took place”.
A DRONE filming in the Canadian wilderness has captured an epic battle between a moose and a wolf.
YouTuber Dan Nystedt happened to be filming a moose near the shore of a lake in northern Ontario when the animal was set upon by the lone hunter.
The footage was filmed with a GoPro 4 hovering above the animals as the moose tried to defend against the wolf by using the water to its advantage.
“Captured this footage by happenstance while shooting some scenics (sic) in Northern Ontario,” Mr Nystedt wrote after posting the video online.
“Was excited by the moose sighting, as I was leaving something unexpected took place.”
After an initial stare down, the moose tries to repeatedly stomp on the wolf before the uncharacteristically alone predator wades into the water and attacks the animal from underneath.
The wolf locks onto the front right leg of the moose as the larger animals drags it through the water trying to shake it loose.
After what seems like an eternity, the moose breaks free.

Despite clearly being fatigued, the larger animal does its best to put some distance between itself and the wolf.
Wolves typically hunt in packs and eventually this particular one retreats and is later seen with another wolf.
If you’re not too squeamish, the video is worth a watch and at the end of the clip the moose can be seen swimming across the lake, presumably towards freedom and safety.
“This type of drama is happening in the forest every day. We are so lucky that the internet is helping us to see this,” commented one YouTuber user.
Amen to that.
