Emu snatches earring valued at $1800 from Sydney woman’s earlobe before swallowing it

VIDEO: This is the hilarious moment a Sydney woman poses with a camel before a cheeky emu bites an expensive earring from her earlobe and swallows it.

IT’S the pearler of a story that’s hard to swallow.

When Cromer’s Sabine Versluys visited a camel farm in Yulara, an insolated town in the Northern Territory, she thought she would be richer for the experience — not poorer.

Instead, Ms Versluys was the latter after a cheeky, young emu bit an expensive earring straight out of her left earlobe before swallowing it.

Ms Versluys said the single earring — which consists of 18 carat-gold, three small diamonds and a Tahitian pearl — has been valued at about $1800.

“I was stunned” Ms Versluys said.

“Everyone I mentioned it to is amazed it happened.

“I’m really amazed that I didn’t get injured because the earring was really securely attached.

“My first reaction was that my sister (who bought the earrings as a gift five years ago) would be very upset ... afterwards I realised it was such a great story.”

Ms Versluys was preparing to get a photo with a camel when the unsuspecting emu approached her from behind and snatched the earring.

It was hoped that the animal might pass the treasured item after it swallowed the earring on August 1, but the earring hasn’t yet been found.
