Elusive big cat spotted by North Queensland resident

A resident in North Queensland has claimed to have captured footage of an elusive big cat roaming the area.

A possible sighting of the elusive big cat that is said to roam the bush in Far North Queensland has been captured in an image taken by a local resident.

The Douglas Shire resident said the photograph was taken on December 11, 2022, at approximately 8:15pm, in the South Mossman area, near an industrial zone.

It was taken with a trail camera and shows an unidentified feline-like object on the left side of the picture.

The property owner revealed that the trail camera had been set up to monitor their goats, which were being menaced by dingoes. The photograph surfaced the day after Newsport reported an unconfirmed sighting of a big cat in the shire within the previous few weeks.

Another long-time resident named Rosie Wang had reported seeing a large feline-like creature resembling a cat while driving home from Cairns to Port Douglas in 2018, along the Captain Cook highway, at night.

A Newsport reader left a message on the publication’s Facebook page earlier today, stating that she had seen an “unidentifiable creature” near Wangetti on the side of the road near the start of the overtaking lanes heading toward Cairns a few years prior, at night.

The authenticity of the photograph has not been verified, but it has fuelled speculation and debate about the existence of the mysterious big cat in the Douglas shire.

The possibility of a large predator, such as a panther or a mountain lion, residing in the area is not impossible, according to wildlife experts.

However, there is no solid evidence to support the theory.

Regardless of whether the photograph is genuine or not, the possibility of a big cat roaming in the area has ignited interest in the local community.
