Dog hitches ride on truck, ends up in another state

This “naughty little Australian terrier” hitched a ride 1500km away from home and is now stuck in another state. His family just want him home safe and sound.

HITCHING a ride with strangers is a risky thing to do. But one cheeky Australian terrier, clearly in need of a little adventure, took the risk and is now stuck in another state.

While his family were on holidays, Rusty had been staying at his owners’ in-laws’ property at Goondiwindi, in Queensland.

That was before the three-year-old pup decided to hop on the back of a passing truck. Now he’s 1500km away from home … in South Australia.

“Rusty’s quite happy there [at the in-laws] but he makes a habit of sneaking off to the highway and trying to befriend people as they drive past,” Rusty’s owner, Laura Scudamore told ABC News.

The truck driver was “in the middle of nowhere” when he discovered the pert pup so he decided to take him to his home in Snowtown, South Australia.

The in-laws were called and informed about Rusty’s sneaky trip and now Ms Scudamore is trying to bring him home, with help from social media.

“I’ve been looking into dog couriers and they’re quite expensive, so I’m trying on the off-chance that someone on my Facebook knows someone, and it’s just gone crazy,” she said.

Rusty’s disappearance is not “completely surprising” to Ms Scudamore. Last year he went on a little adventure to Chinchilla, 230km away from his home.

Now, who’s a naughty boy?
