Deadly tiger snake wrapped around petrol bowser at Melbourne service station

Customers at this Melbourne servo were in for a shock when one noticed a deadly reptile had brazenly wrapped itself around the petrol pump.

Australia has invented Shazam for spiders and snakes

It’s snake season which means the slithery reptiles are showing up all over the place.

But one motorist received a nasty surprise when they went to the petrol pump at a servo in Melbourne, finding a deadly tiger snake at the bowser.

Melbourne snake catcher Raymond Hoser was quick to get out to the Coles Express in Nunawading today to relocate the animal.

“Yes deadly tiger snakes like this ripper specimen have been hitching rides in cars and turning up in weird places this week,” he said.

Tiger snakes are “extremely dangerous to humans” because of their toxic venom and aggressive defence.

“Although generally shy and preferring escape over conflict, a cornered tiger snake will put on an impressive threat display by holding its forebode in a tense, loose curve with the head slightly raised and pointed at the offender,” the Australian Museum says.

“It will hiss loudly as it inflates and deflates its body, and if provoked further will lash out and bite forcefully.

“The venom of the tiger snake is strongly neurotoxic and coagulant, and anyone suspected of being bitten should seek medical attention immediately.”

Mr Hoser said there had been other strange finds this week, including a snake in a wall cavity in a Melbourne University.

“Copperheads all over the place, including in some pallets from who knows where,” he said.

“A tree snake hitching a ride down from Queensland, turned up in east Bentleigh, a massive brown snake, a copperhead and a tiger snake all in Warrandyte at the same time.

“More snakes in Diamond Creek, Sunshine North, Hillside, etc.”
