Crocodile swims from Pallarenda to The Strand

THE sighting of a crocodile in Townsville today has sparked a warning at the city’s premiere tourist hotspot.

THE sighting of a crocodile in Townsville today has sparked a warning at the city’s premiere tourist hotspot.

The animal was filmed by a morning walker about 10am swimming off Kissing Point and Jezzine Barracks towards The Strand.

Lifeguard and wildlife officers from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection have been alerted.

Wildlife officers were this morning on The Strand and about Ross Creek looking for the animal to see what action, if any, would be taken.

Cordelia Hough spotted the crocodile swimming from Pallarenda to The Strand.

She said she contacted authorities at The Strand to warn swimmers.

Ms Hough warned people with dogs to be wary of walking close to the beach.

On November 14 another large saltwater crocodile seen at the Port of Townsville and was declared a “problem crocodile” by EHP.

It was first sighted on the port’s CCTV cameras but was not seen again.

It’s unknown if the crocodile seen today was the same animal earlier sighted at the port.
