25,000 kilograms of pigeon droppings removed from inside the towers of Landgate Arch in England
IF YOU thought your job was painful, you have nothing on this group of workers whose daily grind has got to be one of the toughest.
IF you thought your job was crappy, you have nothing on a group of contractors from England.
The unlucky souls have been tasked with removing around 25,000 kilograms of pigeon droppings from inside the towers of Landgate Arch in Rye, East Sussex. It was feared the droppings, almost one metre deep, would cause damage to the stonework of the historical monument. CountyClean Environmental Services Mike Walker said the task was one of the biggest he had ever encountered. “While we’ve removed other massive blockages such giant fatbergs in sewers, we have never seen such a monumental mass of festering faeces before,” he told BBC. “The build up behind the doors was so big we had to force the doors open. Once inside, it was like walking on a giant chocolate cake and the smell was awful — even through a face mask.” “The floors of the towers and the steps leading to the top were swamped with 25 tonnes of poo. We filled our tanker several times over.” The clean-up operation is expected to be completed on Friday.
