Three-year-old boy battling cancer is set to become the youngest FDNY firefighter

THREE-YEAR-OLD Trucker, who is fighting cancer, is about to see his biggest dream come true, with a little help from the New York City Fire Department.

Meet three-year-old Trucker Dukes.

THE New York City Fire Department is set to welcome the youngest firefighter to its team. Meet three-year-old Trucker Dukes, who will become an honorary FDNY firefighter on May 31.

Little Trucker was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, when he was 19-months-old. He spends a lot of his days travelling to New York with his mum, from his home in Hawaii, to receive his needed treatment.

Since New York has become like a second home for Trucker, he’s now friends with the local firefighters. This heartwarming snap shared on Team Trucker Facebook page shows the true friendship between Trucker and FDNY Captain, Jim Grismer.

Three-year-old Trucker couldn’t contain his excitement and ran straight into Captain Jim Grismer’s arms.

Trucker and Captain Grismer’s special bond kicked off after the excited three-year-old noticed a group of firetrucks outside his Ronald McDonald house. Trucker couldn’t contain his excitement and ran straight into Grismer’s arms.

“I see this little boy excitedly walking towards me with his eyes aglow. I opened my arms and he basically climbed up and hugged me around the neck,” Grismer said. “It was as if we’ve been friends/brothers for years.”

This photo touched many people’s hearts and even encouraged the invitation for Trucker to become an honorary firefighter of New York.

“This honour is so special to us because Trucker-Boy really thinks he’s a fireman,” Trucker’s mum, Shauna Dukes, told The Huffington Post.

And for his third birthday, Trucker received one of the best presents a little kid could ever imagine — the New York City firefighters threw him a party at their station! Hats off to you guys!
