A friend of an acquaintance's friend of a cousin's friend's sister on Facebook, via Reddit, told me the story about a python eating an intoxicated man who was passed out on a pavement outside a bottle shop in India.

Now the internet is eating itself with disgust, wondering if you go out for a few beers this will be your fate.

If you are heading out tonight, fear not, the whole thing has finally been debunked. Yep, it's a big fat hoax. You can now sleep under a bench at a train station without the risk of a mega snake engulfing you in one bite.

Despite what the internet will have you believe, this python has not eaten a drunkard in India, then continued its quest for human flesh across the globe. Quite possibly, the Indian drunkard got home safely and you've kept his mother up all night worrying.

Reddit knew the media manipulator for what it was, almost immediately - calling very loudly HOAX over and over.

Reports about this python's ridiculous appetite for humans has existed on blogs and social media for years.

The shareable stories include the python eating up to four different unnamed victims at almost the same time. The man-eater reportedly feasted on a four-year-old in Malaysia, chomped its way through South Africa, stopped for a plate of dessert in the floods in Indonesia and finished with a midnight snack in China. This was all before lurking outside the bottle shop in Kerala, India.

The first known appearance of the photograph online was from a Facebook post by South African reporter Linda Laina Nyatoro. She claimed to have taken the photo near Durban North, South Africa in 2012. There has been at least one reported fatality in Durban, but in 2002 and it isn't related to this photo.
