Online users have been left mystified by an optical illusion that seems to move despite being a still image.

A bizarre optical illusion has left viewers scratching their heads in confusion after columns appeared to move in a still image.

The bamboozling picture was uploaded to social media platform Reddit by a user who posts under the name Eatvaca, The Sun reports.

Captioned “Drunk Pandas” the image shows eight green columns which look like bamboo stalks.

On first glance there is nothing special about the eight columns, but after you stare for a while you will realise that they start moving.

They appear to move even more when you scroll up and down.

One viewer was astounded that the post was a still image and said: “It’s not a gif right?”

Another couldn’t believe their eyes, saying: “What the f**k have you done you evil person? I have looked at this for 10 minutes now.”

“Why the hell is it moving?” asked a third.

Others made jokes about the name of the illusion.

“Maybe I am a drunk panda,” one joked.

“Ha joke’s on you I’m already drunk. So that sh*t cancels each other out,” said another.
