Video shows how random strangers react when asked to read racist comments

A BLACK man asks strangers to translate a comment on his Facebook page. What he doesn’t realise is that the comment is horribly racist. But what happens next is heartwarming.

A VIDEO produced by a human rights group shows an African man asking strangers to translate a Facebook comment he has received into English.

The masterminds behind the video, the Lithuanian Centre for Human Rights, invited ordinary people, not actors, to participate in a casting for an ad.

The video shows them being led to a waiting room with an African man sitting on the couch with an iPad in his hand.

The video shows several men and women and a child asked to translate the comment. One woman flat out refused saying “You know I will not translate it to you, it’s very humiliating” while one man, through disbelief also refused saying “It’s so difficult to say, looking in your eyes, no I can’t”.

While the African man pushes them to read it we hear snippets of the disturbing comment as one woman read it with broken English and with utter disbelief and tears in her eyes.

“Monkey, what are you doing in Lithuania, Go back to Africa. That your smell would be not here ... If you will not get this we will catch you ... from your slave skin we will make shoes”.

As the video ends almost every participant apologises for what had been written, with one man saying “What can say I just apologise about that person”.
