WHAT’S the gay joke that had the most powerful man in the world laughing and giving the prankster a fist bump?

WHEN he stopped by a Texas barbecue restaurant for a photo opportunity, US President Barack Obama was probably just after some lunch.

Instead a gay joke by the cashier turned into a viral hit.

While on a visit to the city of Austin at the weekend, Obama paid a visit to the famous Franklin Barbecue and met employee Daniel Webb, who was serving behind the counter.

As the most powerful man in the world approached him, Webb reportedly yelled “Equal rights for gay people”.

As the Austin Chronicle reports, Obama — a staunch supporter of equality himself — asked the man if he was gay himself.

“Only when I have sex,” Webb replied.

After laughing, the president reached out for a fist bump and the moment was snapped on camera.

“It was just a lucky day to be the register girl,” Webb, a local comedian, later told the Austin Chronicle.

The hilarious interaction eased any tension over Obama cutting the long line at the restaurant, Webb said.

After chatting to locals, the president was reportedly accosted by a member of a local Occupy protest movement.

Rather than brush the young critic aside, Webb said Obama sat her down for a long chat about her issue.

Then the president reached of his credit card and picked up some patrons’ dinner tabs, reportedly to the tune of about $300.
