THE Boxtrolls is a 3D stop motion animated fantasy-comedy with an impressive cast which has been nominated for best animated feature at the upcoming 72nd Golden Globe awards.

But it is the animaters and their work that has people talking.

Viewers who stuck around for the credits were given a look at a time lapse video showing the animaters at work.

The video reveals the painstaking and time consuming work that goes into putting a 3D stop motion movie together, and should give viewers a greater appreciation for what they’ve just watched.

Stop motion involves moving the object in small increments and individually photographing frames, eventually playing them in sequence and creating movement much like a flip book but with a lot more work.
