LIKE any modern tech-savvy business around the world, the Taliban uses social media to inform the world of their cause.

The Taliban isn’t an ordinary business though — it’s a terror organisation. So with some of the most powerful militaries in the world looking for them, they have to try and not give their location away when using social media.

Last week though, Zabiullah Mujahid, a Taliban propaganda spokesman made a big mistake and forgot to turn off the option for Twitter to geolocate him. The location of Mujahid had long been unknown, but the tweets revealed it to be in Sindh, Pakistan.

American intelligence has long believed that Mujahid has been living in Pakistan, rather than the Taliban’s homeland of Afghanistan.

Once he realised what had happened, excuses started to flow. He tweeted saying that the geolocation was all part of an “enemy plot” and that his true location was actually in Afghanistan. “Now, the enemy’s fake act has been exposed, and with full confidence, I can say that I am in my own country,” he then tweeted.

After being trolled by his followers, Mujahid then tweeted his location as being in Ohio, America. However, not many people were convinced, as tech-savvy people can fake their location on Twitter.
