LOUIS Theroux has forged a career exposing underground subcultures in his highly popular documentaries. Now the tables have turned.
LOUIS Theroux has forged a career exposing underground subcultures in his highly popular documentaries.
After showcasing the underbelly of porn, swingers, Nazis and the American prison system, the filmmaker has turned his interests to Scientology.
However, it appears the religion has gotten on the front foot and are planning on making a documentary of its own.
Taking to Twitter last night, Theroux explained he had been informed by Scientology lawyers that he would be the subject of its documentary.
Just been informed by Scientology lawyers that Scientology is working on a documentary about me. Little bit excited; little bit nervous.

The documentarian saw the humour in the situation posting a jovial tweet a few hours later.
People seem even more excited to see Scientology's doc about me than my doc about Scn. Maybe I should have just made a doc about myself?

The content of Theroux’s documentary is yet to be known, but he has said it is vastly different to the HBO documentary Going Clear.
I have now seen Going Clear and I'm pleased to say our #Scientology doc is very different.

The only details given on the film are in a BBC brochure detailing its upcoming film releases.
“For more than 10 years, Louis Theroux has been in the grip of a personal fascination with Scientology,” the release wrote.
“Now living in Los Angeles in the heart of the world’s largest population of Scientologists, he has decided to immerse himself in what he regards as “the Holy Grail of Stories”.”
