A popular New Zealand fitness influencer and mother of five has died from unknown causes.

Raechelle Chase had more than 1.4 million followers on Facebook and was considered an “internet sensation” for her inspiring videos.

Chase was a professional bodybuilder and fitness writer who was the first New Zealander to qualify for an Olympia bodybuilding event and competed in various international meets.

She worked as a fitness model, appearing on magazine covers, while also offering online fitness mentoring.

Her eldest daughter Anna Chase paid tribute to her, describing her as a supportive, kind-hearted, and ambitious woman who inspired millions.

“She was supportive, kind-hearted and always had the best advice for us. She was a wildly driven woman with ambition and has inspired millions of people around the world,” she wrote.

“I miss her immensely and that love won’t ever fade.”

Her friend Keith O‘Connell expressed his shock and sadness over her sudden passing and praised her kindness.

“Not going to lie, very few things in my life hit me as hard as your passing... You had so much left to live. So much love to give,” he wrote earlier this month.

“You were, still are, and always will be one of the kindest beautiful souls I will ever have experienced.”

Chase had five children and was married to her husband Chris Chase for 14 years until their separation in February 2015.

Chris Chase was later jailed for ten years due to his involvement in distributing a drug similar to MDMA.

In 2016, Raechelle wrote an article for Stuff in which she detailed her “toxic” post-divorce relationship, warning others to leave abusive relationships, especially for the sake of children.

She mentioned how raising her children alone made her feel more confident and empowered, even while being nine months pregnant with her two youngest children.

Her death is under investigation by the New Zealand Coroner.
