New York student Gerry Shalam becomes the talk of the internet after embarrassing himself in viral video

HERE’S the first lesson of the internet — what goes on stays there forever and if you’re going to act like a drunken fool, then this is what happens.
New York University student Gerry Shalam found that out the hard way after he and his mates were filmed leaving a popular Manhattan eatery after a long brunch.
Their antics got the internet talking.
Not only did Mr Shalam make a fool of himself, but he pretended to be someone he clearly wasn’t — and was caught out big time.
In a YouTube video posted yesterday, the student, who had just eaten at Pranna, is seen outside a dry cleaners on 28th Street with three friends, one of whom is being supported against a wall and appears to be drunk.
But Mr Shalam realises he is being filmed and approaches the cameraman, demanding he put his camera away because his dad is in real estate and owns half the city.
The man filming the footage then asks the pair to move off his property when Gerry launches into this tirade:
“This your property?,” he says as he goes to on to claim his name is Gerry Adjmi.
“My dad is in f***ing’ real estate, you’re gonna tell me this your property? My dad owns half of f***ing Manhattan.”
He also claims he also has both the police and Mayor Bill DeBlasio on his side. Oh and he’s apparently a lawyer too.
“You think a guy who does real estate doesn’t own the cops?”.
But if that isn’t bad enough; surprise, surprise it turns out Gerry Adjmi isn’t who he says he is at all.
Despite deleting all his social media accounts, US website The Smoking Gun discovered he isn’t actually who he says he is.
As it turns out the drunken student is actually Gerry Shalam, a New Jersey man whose father Lou is a garment industry executive, and his mother Frieda an event co-ordinator and member of the Allenhurst Borough zoning and planning board.
The video, and his apparent claim to fame has attracted a raft of attention on social media with some people calling him a “terrible man child” while others called his behaviour disgusting.

Gerry Shalam is actually a student of #NYU. No surprise that a self-indulgent capitalist is already attending there http://t.co/f7hV8U0Zse

So looks like the drunken NYU students dad who owns half of Manhattan, doesn't actually own half of Manhattan. #gerryshalam

That terrible manchild who drunkenly proclaimed his father owns half of manhattan is from, of course, New Jersey: http://t.co/2KGm1Yk0QJ

This whole Gerry Shalam thing is disgusting. I hope he gets expelled from NYU

And while Mr Shalam may be regretting his behaviour, at least he’s not quite as bad as the YouTube clip makes him out to be.
The 20-year-old co-founded a charitable organisation called Brothers Helping Others that helps low-income immigrant families in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
He is also not totally incorrect regarding the status of the Adjmi family who are indeed wealthy and also in real estate.
