Presumably it is the work of someone with a strange vendetta against the streaming giant, or a guerilla marketing campaign by Netflix itself. When asked about the billboards by the media and fans on social media Netflix was tight-lipped, strongly suggesting the latter.
As if to reinforce the notion that Netflix is in on the joke, the company’s official Twitter account posted a picture of an article about the mysterious billboards with a number of question marks.
And alas, it is indeed a stunt by Netflix. The billboards which puzzled pedestrians and motorists for the past couple days have been revealed to be an inside job, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
According to the report, the campaign is set to expand in the coming days and is designed to promote several of the company’s A-list comedians together to promote their individual specials on the streaming service.
The comedians involved include the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle.
