Nana Sophie celebrates 105th birthday by taking to social media

NANA SOPHIE, believed to be the oldest social media user, has turned 105 with her fans appropriately taking to Twitter to wish her many happy returns.

NANA SOPHIE, believed to be the oldest social media user, has turned 105 with her fans appropriately taking to Twitter to wish her many happy returns.

The centenarian from Chesapeake City, Maryland, has become something of an internet sensation, often posting observations on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Born on 15 October 1909, three years before the Titanic sank, Nana Sophie (surname Ferrara) struggles with a kidney problem that has left her immobile. However that hasn’t stopped her setting a goal of getting to 25,000 Facebook followers. She enlists the help of her grandsons Joseph and Dylan Scuderi, 15 and 12, to help her.

Originally from Staten Island, New York it is probably unsurprising that Nana Sophie used to be a telephone operator.

She loves being able to communicate with people via the internet.

Nana Sophie said “I don’t call it Facebook, Twitter or Instagram but all ‘the computer’,” she said.

“It makes me feel good to know people are still good in this world. I am cared for nor just ‘old’.

“I will continue to post messages as long as people look for me.”
