MySpace emails old, embarrassing photos to former members to try and bring interest back to the site
MYSPACE have been emailing users photos from their profiles in 2005 to try and create a resurgence of the website. In the interest of fairness we have found other things of interest from a decade ago.
A LONG, long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, social media was ruled by MySpace.
The popular social networking service connected friends, family and strangers, while also putting a strong emphasis on music.
It was ahead of its time and saw fast growth before reaching a peak in 2008 when it made way for Facebook.
In a hope to reinvent the company, Justin Timberlake and Specific Media purchased MySpace from News Corp for $35 million in 2011.
With the new owners came an updated look and it appeared MySpace was becoming cool again.
Last year, the company reportedly spent $20 million on an ad campaign to spread the news about the reinvigorated MySpace.
However, it appears the website just doesn’t have the appeal to reach the same heights it did in its glory days.
Determined not to fade in the abyss, the website have started using a new tactic of emailing users photos they posted on MySpace 10 years ago.
According to Mashable, the emails include a number of photos and a line that reads, “the good, the rad and the what were you thinking ...”
Users are then provided a link to their old profile — well, only if you are on the same email you were 10 years ago.
It is unclear whether the marketing technique is working, but keeping in the spirit of nostalgia we have put together a list of other things that were all the buzz a decade ago.
