LOLCATS take over the Twitter account of Labor MP Michael Danby
IT IS our pleasure to introduce you to the winner of the internet today. Michael Danby’s Twitter feed is a sight to behold - and he says he hasn’t been hacked.
MICHAEL Danby has worked hard to win the internet today.
The Labor member for Melbourne Ports has given himself a new portfolio: Minister for cat memes.
At 1.15pm today, @MichaelDanbyMP tweeted exactly 10 cat memes.
News.com.au spotted the flood of cats on his profile, and contacted Mr Danby to see when he became such a feline lover.
Admittedly, we did presume his account had been hacked — so took screen shots before we made the call, so all you cat lovers out there could indulge in a few memes before they were deleted.
But we were shocked to hear that Mr Danby had posted the pictures himself. All 10 of them.
(Side note — when this was discovered, a few people did shout “story of the year” in the news.com.au newsroom. Some people really love cats).
A spokesman for Mr Danby said the posts were deliberate, and were posted by Mr Danby himself.
“Mr Danby has a keen sense of humour, and this is one of the ways he expresses it.”
The spokesman confirmed Mr Danby does not even have a cat: “It’s not particularly about cats. It’s about cat memes”.
No Mr Danby, it’s not. It’s about winning the web. And we think you’ve done that today. So well done.
