Gigi Hadid calls ‘embarrassing’ Jake Paul ‘irrelevant’, ‘ugly’ after threats to Zayn Malik
A controversy-courting YouTuber has been “owned online” after threatening a pop star, whose supermodel girlfriend leapt to his defence.
Supermodel Gigi Hadid has delivered a social media slap to YouTube superstar Jake Paul, branding him “irrelevant” after he threatened to “clap up” former One Direction member Zayn Malik.
Jake Paul, 23, rose to prominence (if not relevancy) through the social media app Vine, a sort of Tik-Tok-before-Tik-Tok app where users shared looping, six-second videos.
When Vine was shut down he moved on to YouTube, where he has amassed a sizeable follower base of mostly younger fans by regularly creating low-effort videos courting controversy through pranks and other outrageous behaviour, as is common on the platform.
His older brother Logan, 24, is in a similar line of work.
He made headlines in January 2018 when he visited Japan’s Aokigahara Forest, commonly known as the “Suicide Forest”.
There he created a video called “We found a dead body in the Japanese Suicide Forest …”, which triggered a massive controversy after it was uploaded and then subsequently removed from YouTube.
The video featured Logan Paul in a stupid hat making fun of the deceased as well as close-up shots of the corpse with the face blurred out.
The younger Paul had tried to leverage his social stardom with the creation of an influencer management agency called Team 10.
Members lived in the same house as one another and would collaborate together on content, but the group is believed to have fallen apart due to a “toxic” environment in the house.
Two departing members said in a video they were scared to sleep in the house as they’d risk falling victim to one of Jake’s pranks.
Other members included Alissa Violet, who in a separate but similar incident took aim at her gamer boyfriend for allegedly cheating on her and damaging her property.
Jake took shots at Ms Violet in a terrible song that is the fifth-most disliked video on YouTube.
A few months later another video emerged of Jake repeatedly saying the N-word in a freestyle rap.
The Paul brothers have also competed in boxing bouts against rival YouTubers.
Jake recently won his first professional bout against British YouTuber AnEsonGib.

It’s possible he was still amped up from that fight, and the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury heavyweight title bout he travelled to Las Vegas for, when he took to Twitter last night.
“Almost had to clap up Zane from One Direction because he is a little guy and has an attitude and basically told me to f**k off for no reason when I was being nice to him,” Jake said.
“Zane I know you’re reading this,” he taunted further. “Stop being angry cause you came home alone to your big ass hotel room.”

Malik doesn’t appear to be following Jake on Twitter, but his supermodel girlfriend Gigi Hadid sure saw his tweet and stepped in to dispute claims Malik was alone.
“Lol cause he doesn’t care to hang with you and your embarrassing crew of YouTube groupies? Home alone with his best friends like a respectful king cause he has me, sweetie. Unbothered by your irrelevant ugly ass. Go to bed,” Hadid wrote in a post that has since been retweeted more than 100,000 times.
The stats on her response far outstrip the engagement on Jake’s original post, indicating that he has been “owned online”.
Violet weighed in as well, siding with the supermodel over her former Team 10 leader to say “go off sis ily” (“ily” being an acronym for “I love you”).
General sentiment online is that Hadid and Malik should be “stanned” for their action to “end” Jake Paul, who is a “(clown emoji)”.
Malik has not tweeted a response.
