GANGSTERS from the Mexican drug cartels are using Instagram to flaunt the profits of crime for the whole world to see.
MOVE over Dan Blizerian, there are some new gun-toting bad boys boasting on social media and they are not poker playing celebrities seeking the limelight.
Young gangsters from the Mexican drug cartels are using Instagram to flaunt the profits of crime for the whole world to see.
Using account names such as Cartel Luxury and Cartel Imperial, they are posting photos of luxury vehicles, gold-plated guns and exotic animals to prove the extent of their wealth.
As the cartels are renowned for violence against police, politicians and others that oppose them, it is no surprise they fearlessly boast on the social media app.
One user, going by the name @Arturo5_7, claims he isn’t involved in drug trafficking, but is more than happy to promote the cartel because it is more trustworthy than the local government.
“Not all of the pictures are taken by me, [some] are taken and sent to me by my friends,” he told The Kernel.
He added that he doesn’t fear retribution from law enforcement because he is only depicting modern day life in Mexico.
“Mexico has been overcome by narcoculture,” he said.
Probably the most surprising aspect of the accounts is the fact Instagram allows them operate, given it has previously banned celebrities from Instagram after posting controversial topless photos.
