A QUEENSLAND MP has sacked her son after he posted inappropriate memes on social media, including one that showed him as a terrorist praising 9/11.

A QUEENSLAND government MP has sacked her son after he posted inappropriate memes on social media, including an astronaut on the moon brandishing a knife and an Islamic State flag.

Alexander Donaldson had been working as a casual electorate officer for his mother, Bundaberg MP Leanne Donaldson, before he put the inflammatory, digitally altered pictures on his Facebook page.

The other was of the twin towers on September 11, which Mr Donaldson altered to show himself with a beard, Muslim headwear, and speech bubble saying “Allah Akbar!!!”, an Islamic exclamation that means “God is [the] greatest”.

The 25-year-old was shocked people had been offended by the material, which he posted in May, saying it was just a joke between friends.

However, it’s understood they caused a great deal of embarrassment for his mother.

A spokesman for Ms Donaldson confirmed her son was no longer working in her office.

However, he wouldn’t confirm if the Facebook posts were to blame and said Ms Donaldson didn’t have anything to say about the inflammatory material.

While Queensland Labor MPs are banned from hiring spouses, they are only discouraged from employing other family members.
