Clip of Captain Sarah Cudd completing gruelling 12-Mile Foot March goes viral

And it took everything Captain Sarah Cudd had to complete it.

In what has been described as a great example of “heart, guts and determination”, the recruit from Public Health Command, Fort Knox managed to finish the 12-Mile Foot March in two hours and 46 minutes.

Capt Cudd’s inspiring achievement was posted on Facebook last month and has been watched more than 1.2 million times.

In the 1.03 minute YouTube clip, Capt Cudd is seen collapsing to the ground several times just metres from the finish line.

Despite her obvious agony, she rises to her feet thanks to the encouragement of her fellow soldiers who can be heard yelling out in the clip “C’mon, don’t stop, you’re right there” and “You got this”, “Get up”, “You got it baby”.

The 12-Mile Foot March is the final event of the Expert Field Medical Badge (EFMB), and is awarded only to the those who attain a high degree of professional skill and profiency as a field medic.

Personnel not only undergo the march but a comprehensive written test, weapons test, army physical fitness test, navigation courses, obstacle courses, as well as have their radio and survival skills tested and their medical skills tested.

School Expert Field Medical Badge Program Manager Lloyd A. Manson of the US Army posted Capt Cudd’s achievement on his Facebook page explaining the march has to be completed within three hours and that “If you want it, you have to go get it”.

“This EFMB candidate wanted it, and and she got it. It took heart, guts, determination, falling down and getting up, and a little motivation from the crowd to get across the finish line. Check this out,’ he wrote.

Capt Cudd was one of 46 candidates who finished the event on April 27, 2015.
