City’s social media heroes gather for Instameet to promote the Coast as well as themselves
THE city’s key Instagrammers will today gather for a Gold Coast Instameet organised by Tourism and Events Queensland.
KAZUMI Inoue sees the word in squares.
The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary visitor services manager admits to seeing everything in front of her as if it has been cropped and posted on Instagram.
Ms Inoue, who goes by the handle @sabbiak, has become addicted to the social media form since signing up two years ago.
Today she is one of the Gold Coast’s most prolific Instagrammers and boasts 4730 followers who are watching closely to see which quirky native animal image she puts up next.
“A lot of people do sunrises on Instagram,” she said.
“But it is the animals that are right outside my front door, so I focus on them.
“I take 50 to 100 images every day.
“Not all of them are good, but I am looking for that magical shot.”
Ms Inoue, who moved to Australia from Japan 26 years ago, posts about three pictures each day from the wildlife park.
She said if Instagram users spent a few more minutes thinking about their image before they pressed the button, they would get more out of social media.
“I try to take pictures that are a bit different,” she said.
“Sometimes it is just about moving a bit, instead of getting the picture straight on.
“Or coming right into the subject.”
Ms Inoue will this morning gather with some of the city’s other key Instagrammers for an Instameet organised by Tourism and Events Queensland.
Anyone who participates will be asked to hashtag their images #visitGoldCoast and #thisisQueensland in an effort to create a publicity boost for the city and the state.
The city’s superstar instagrammers include photographers Lauren Bath, who has 369,000 people following her @laurenpbath account, Gary Norris, who has 126,000 followers of @gary — norris and Snapper Rocks based Jewels Lynch, a “social influencer’’ who has more than 70,000 followers of her JewelsZee account.
