PEOPLE often take to twitter to express negative feelings that may be having.

Sometimes this is less about attention seeking and more about them actually having a bad day.

Now, a new Web app is working to make the world a happier place one tweeter at a time.

Aptly titled CheerUpper, the app collects tweets that might indicate a person is feeling upset by using the Twitter API and MetaMind’s sentiment analysis API.

Users of the Web app are given the option to trawl through these tweets until they find someone they would like to reply to and using the CheerUpper account they can send kind words to brighten their day.

To avoid trolls taking advantage of the system, the website reviews the responses before they are posted.

Users can choose to be notified via email once their kind words have been posted or they can include their Twitter handle and be alerted with a mention.

If after sending kind words users feel a little down, they can post a tweet with the hashtag #cheermeup and become CheerUpper recipients themselves.
