Charity launches interactive billboard to combat domestic abuse

A BRITISH billboard is drawing attention for its innovative take on drawing attention to domestic violence victims.

DOMESTIC violence is a global issue being fought with confronting and innovative ad campaigns.

A UK charity for women and children working to end domestic abuse Women’s Aid have launched an interactive billboard in London. The billboard depicts a woman with a bruised face and as people look at her face the bruises fade. The more people that look at her face the faster the bruises fade.

The billboard was the brainchild of ad agency WCRS and media company Ocean Outdoor.

It uses facial recognition technology to monitor if people passing by look at the billboard and when they do it registers it.

Once all the bruises fade the woman in the billboard mouths ‘thank you’ to those who looked.

The UK campaign was made public just as The Salvation Army released a confronting domestic violence campaign that weighed in on the dress debate. The colour of the dress divided opinions worldwide asking if it was black and blue or white and gold due to an optical illusion.

According to White Ribbon Australia on average one woman is killed every week as a result of domestic violence and one in four children are exposed to domestic violence.
