The world’s richest man has been spending a lot of time on Twitter recently, marking his purchase with a series of bizarre claims.

Elon Musk: The life of a billionaire eccentric

Elon Musk has embarked on a bizarre Twitter rampage, firing off a barrage of rogue tweets including one where he joked about putting cocaine back into Coca Cola.

The world’s richest man has raised many an eyebrow in the days following his sensational purchase of Twitter for $61.4 billion.

Among a strange compilation of recent posts, Mr Musk joked he would further make use of his financial prowess by changing the Coca Cola recipe.

“Next I’m buying Coca-Cola to put the cocaine back in,” he tweeted.

About 40 minutes later, he re-shared an image of a tweet purporting to have been created by him but appeared be a product of someone’s Photoshop work.

“Now I’m going to buy McDonald’s and fix all of the ice cream machines,” the fake tweet read.

The billionaire acknowledged he was a fan of the idea, but said it was unlikely he could make it happen.

“Listen, I can’t do miracles OK,” he told his followers.

Hours earlier, he tweeted that it was necessary to upset the “far right and the far left equally” if Twitter was to be a politically neutral and trusted platform.

“For Twitter to deserve public trust, it must be politically neutral, which effectively means upsetting thefar right and the far left equally,” he tweeted.

Mr Musk also shared a screenshot showing rival social media app Truth Social – developed by Trump Media and Technology Group – outranking Twitter in the free app Top Charts.

“Truth Social is currently beating Twitter & TikTok on the Apple Store,” Mr Musk wrote.

“Truth Social (terrible name) exists because Twitter censored free speech,” he added.

In another tweet, he said, “Should be called Trumpet instead!”.

More recently, he proclaimed “Twitter DMs should have end to end encryption like Signal, so no one can spy on or hack your messages”.

Following his takeover of the platform, Mr Musk has routinely referenced his plan to reform what he sees as Twitter’s overzealous content moderation.

His insistence has already seen the value of the Trump Truth Social app plummet, despite former US President Donald Trump saying he would never return to tweeting.

Twitter famously served as a megaphone for Mr Trump before the platform banned him once he lost the presidency.

“I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH,” Mr Trump told Fox News.

“I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH.”

Mr Musk earlier said he hoped “that even my worst critics remain on Twitter, because that is what free speech means”.
