Arkansas police chief reported to FBI, resigns over Parler posts

A police chief has been reported to the FBI and resigned after being accused of “domestic terrorism” over social media posts.

An Arkansas police chief resigned after backlash over “dangerous” social media posts urging “Death to all Marxists Democrats” and violence against “traitors” who cheated President Trump out of his re-election bid, according to a report.

Marshall Police Chief Lang Holland’s resignation on Saturday followed a strong rebuke by city Mayor Kevin Elliott condemning the comments on the conservative messaging site Parler, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

“When this is over and Trump is president for 4 more years,” Holland wrote in one post, according to a screenshot tweeted by KATV News reporter Viktoria Capek. “Do not go to sleep. Do not forget what these Marxist Democrat b**tards have tried to do.”

“When you see one in public get in their face do not give them any peace,” Mr Holland wrote. “Throw water on them at restaurants. Push them off sidewalks. Never let them forget they are traitors and have no right to live in this Republic after what they have done.”

“Death to all Marxist Democrats,” said another post. “Take no prisoners leave no survivors!”

Mr Holland also posted an illustration of former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in orange prison garb, with the caption, “I pray all those in that picture hang on the gallows and are drawn and quartered.”

On Saturday, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson called the comments “dangerous,” the Democrat-Gazette said.

The mayor’s office said it did not fire or call for the chief’s resignation, but did issue the letter condemning the comments.

“The Marshall community does not in any way support or condone bullying or threats of violence to anyone of any political persuasion,” Mr Elliott wrote in the letter. “We condemn it! We are a community that is humbly working to build a bright future for ALL our citizens, whether they be long-term residents or new arrivals.”

The Mayor said Mr Holland apologised when the two met and resigned from his post.

Mr Holland is a former decorated Searcy County deputy and worked as a police adviser in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Democrat-Gazette said.

He could not be immediately reached for comment.
