A reporter was moments from going live when he and his crew were mugged

A NEWS reporter unwittingly became the news instead of reporting it when he and his crew were mugged live on camera.

VUYO Mvoko, a reporter for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) was getting ready for a live cross into his newsroom.

As the cameras rolled, four men approached him and his crew.

While reporters are often harassed live on air, this group was more sinister — conducting a brazen robbery, all caught on camera.

Four men approached the crew, who were reporting from the Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.

Two of them walked in front of the camera, and robbed the crew of their phones, laptops and equipment.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Mvoko took to Twitter to let people know he was OK following the incident.

Colleagues of the crew that was robbed have taken to social media to try track down the thieves.
