A guide on how to use Snapchat’s new Discover feature

IF you are looking for a guide regarding Snapchat’s new ‘Discover’ feature, look no further.

TEMPORARY message app Snapchat has launched a feature that could change the way news is consumed.

Called “Discover”, the major update adds a platform for news organisations to share easily-digestible stories.

In a blog post launching the feature earlier this week, Snapchat wrote Discover was a new way to explore stories from different editorial teams.

“It’s the result of collaboration with world-class leaders in media to build a storytelling format that puts the narrative first,” they wrote.

“Every edition is refreshed after 24 hours — because what’s news today is history tomorrow.”

Currently, users can view content from 11 outlets including CNN, Comedy Central, National Geographic, and Warner Music.

But how do use Snapchat’s new Discover feature?

Firstly, you will need to update your Snapchat app and once this is done you will notice a new layout.

This landing screen will give you the standard options of controlling flash, selecting which camera is used and also offers a shortcut to the full list of your contacts by swiping down or tapping the ghost icon

By swiping right from this screen you will be taken to a page called “stories” and here you can view content shared by your friends.

On the top right side of this page there is a small purple dot.

Clicking here will take you to the Discover homepage and users can select the outlet they wish to view with a simple click.

From here you are taken to the first available content and swiping left or right allows you to trawl what else is on offer from that particular source.

If you like what you see, it is as simple as swiping up to view extended content such as video, text and photos.

Once you have finished exploring, all you have to is swipe down and be returned to the homepage of Discover.
