Family praises ‘smart doorbell’ as saving them from potential home invasion

A MOTHER and her young daughter are praising a tiny gadget for their safety after a man allegedly tried to break into their home.

A SLEEPING mother and her young daughter have been saved from a potential home invasion in Sydney’s northwest thanks to a gadget installed in their family home.

Jrisi Jusakos and her two-and-half-year-old were inside asleep inside their home when a man approached the door and rang the doorbell.

When nobody answered, the man allegedly tried to force his way inside.

Unbeknown to him, the family had a “smart doorbell” installed and her husband, who was not at home, was able to scare the intruder away by answering the door from an app on his mobile phone.

“I think our new camera doorbell just saved our house from being broken into,” the mother wrote on social media following the incident.

The mother explained the brazen daylight incident occurred at 1:55pm and was captured on a number of outside cameras and the Ring Pro video doorbell, which Ms Jusakos said had been installed just a few days earlier.

The camera, which has 1080HD video, two-way audio and customisable motion sensors had been set to notify her husband Tristan’s phone when someone arrived at the family’s home.

This is also how he was able to communicate with the intruder while he was at the front door, although Ms Juusakos said at first her husband thought it was just a courier.

“He heard Tristan’s voice then bolted. Tristan thought he was a courier and even said ‘thank you’ as this a**wipe was leaving,” she explained.

The post attracted the attention of many concerned residents, happy with the outcome.

“Glad your door was locked and hubby was able to answer. Thanks for sharing,” wrote one user.

“Bloody hell Jrisi. People are so brazen. So glad you are safe,” added another.

Mr Jusakos said even though she provided the police with the footage, they were unable to charge the man as no crime had been committed. Yet, she still managed to find light in the situation.

“Unfortunately they can’t charge him unless he damaged property or broke in, however they can use this footage to help identify him which I think they have and also has spooked him into perhaps not attacking another house that day,” she wrote.

Police have since confirmed the man is now in custody over another matter.
