A NEW scam is targeting Facebook users with a scarily realistic fake message about security settings.

We Live Security identified the pop up message as an attempt to trick Facebook web users into installing a malicious app onto their Android phone.

With the message disguised to appear as if it’s been sent from Facebook upon logging in, the scam actually plays on people’s security concerns in the hope of luring people into downloading the malware.

The prompts to provide your mobile phone number and install programs as well as the general lack of grammar in the message should indicate that something is not quite right — but if overlooked, significant damage can result.

The virus is capable of allowing hackers with access to all of the phone’s activities, information and conversations, thus putting bank accounts and more at risk.
