Kim Jong-un: Why does North Korea Photoshop his ears?
LET’S face it, every ruler wants to look their best, and not just when it comes to the office. But Kim Jong-un is taking that to a whole new level.
LET’S face it every ruler wants to look their best, and not just when it comes to the office.
But North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has taken that to a whole new level with Photoshop a massive part of his regime’s propaganda machine.
In fact, forensic software reveals all his pictures have been Photoshopped to make him appear more handsome than he really is.
And if there’s one body part he’s particular self-conscious it’s his ears.
The dictator is so paranoid about them looking good that the regime constantly doctors pictures to make them appear better than they are, Motherboard reported.
Jeffrey Lewis, director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey said North Korea did alter Kim’s ears along with other aspects of his appearance.
“We think these are just cosmetic alterations — changes to help Kim look a bit more handsome than he is in real life, much like a wedding photographer might make. He doesn’t like his ears, or so it seems,” Mr Lewis said.
Forensic software called Tungstene allows researchers to spot any digital changes and its filters help reveal anomalies in apparent untouched images.
But sometimes even without this sophisticated software it’s obvious there’s been some photoshopping at play.
In a picture released from North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency in June last year, Kim’s ears badly photoshopped are pretty obvious.
The outline around the ear and the soldier’s hat appears to be blurred.
So it turns out North Korea has been photoshopping Kim Jong-unâs ears.

Other images show inconsistencies on the skin between his face and neck or obvious differences in tone.
But it wouldn’t be the first time North Korea’s Photoshop fails have been called out.
In 2013 the regime was caught out faking official photos.
The scene showing North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and his staff at a new children’s hospital under construction in Pyongyang went viral for the wrong reasons.
And its state news agency KNCA also released a photo showing a fleet of hovercraft with marines landing on an unidentified beach.
The photo featured at least eight hovercraft, however experts agreed that most of the craft looked like they had been photoshopped.
